European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has received a welcome boost to its order books, as it struggles with the surging cost of the euro.
Gulf airline Emirates has signed a letter of intent to buy 60 more medium-to-long range Airbus planes as it prepares to take delivery of its first giant Airbus A380 at a ceremony in Hamburg on Monday afternoon. The rapidly growing Gulf airline is the biggest customer for the A380, which is the largest passenger plane in the world. Emirates has orders for 58 of the super jumbos, and plans to launch a non-stop service between Dubai and New York on August 1. That will be the world's first service to the United States with an A380.
