Rich and poor nations have accused each other of undermining the latest round of world trade talks taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.
United States trade official David Shark said Washington had "swallowed hard" to accept a compromise on opening up its manufacturing and agricultural sectors, and blamed India and China for backing away from earlier commitments. However, Indian Commerce Minister Kamal Nath said rich countries were holding up the talks by looking for advantages instead of ways to reduce poverty. The Doha round of trade talks has been stalled for years over finding a compromise between rich and poor nations, especially in the area of agricultural subsidies in Europe and the United States.
