Late on Sunday two consecutive blasts struck a residential area of the city, killing 17 people and injuring over 150 others. Turkish authorities suspect Kurdish militants were behind the attack, but a spokesperson for the rebel Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, denied the group's involvement. Meanwhile, Turkey's Constitutional Court has begun considering whether to shut-down the ruling AK party for undermining the country's secular constitution. The 11 judges will sit daily until a verdict is reached, with analysts expecting a result sometime mid-week.
