The chairman of the International Olympic Committee's press commission, Kevan Gosper, has admitted that the IOC cut a deal with the Chinese government on media internet access.
He also said the Olympic movement had misled international media into thinking they would have unfettered access during the Games. The IOC said on Wednesday journalists would get access to Internet sites deemed essential to report on the games, stepping back from a pledge of full, unfettered Internet access. Gosper said he was "disappointed" that the Chinese authorities were blocking sensitive websites, but that the IOC cannot tell China what to do.
