German Chancellor Angela Merkel has welcomed a Turkish court's decision not to ban Turkey's ruling party for undermining secularism.
A spokesperson for Merkel's office said the chancellor personally conveyed her relief to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, saying stability and democratic order in Turkey were central concerns. A top Turkish prosecutor had accused the ruling AK Party of wanting to turn Turkey into an Islamic state.
