Along with a reserve company, the Czech military contingent in the KFOR comprises 516 persons. "We've experienced all the situations we trained," Commander Jiri David said. "This included classical monitoring in our area and the protection of border when Kosovo's independence was declared where we coped with demonstrations by Serbian veterans," David said. The KFOR soldiers operated in six-month missions.

Czech troops have been in Kosovo since 1999 upon a decision by the Chamber of Deputies. From August 1, they will be under the Finnish command along with the Irish, Swedish, Slovak and Latvian units. The command changes after a year. Four dozen countries, such as the USA and 20 EU member states, including the Czech Republic, have recognised the independence of Kosovo from Serbia that it declared on February 18.
