Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered the release of around 200 Hamas members arrested in the West Bank.
The move comes after Hamas released a number of Fatah captives in the Gaza strip. Tensions have flared between the rival Palestinian factions since an explosion last week killed five Hamas militants and a girl. Gaza's Islamist administration blamed the secular faction of President Abbas for the attack, and began a series of mass arrests. One of those arrested and now released is Sawah Abu Seif, a cameraman for the German public broadcaster, ARD. It said Abu Seif had been tortured and was recovering in hospital.
