Six hundred tonnes of rubbish from Naples has arrived in Cologne in Germany for incineration.
The delivery in part of an authorized scheme to dispose of 160,000 tonnes of waste from Italy's southern Campania region at special incinerators in Germany over the next few months. Many plants use the waste to generate electricity. In April, ahead of Italy's election, untreated waste piled up around Naples. Trial over Naples rubbish crisis ... Minister Silvio Berlusconi recently vowed that Italy would build new incinerators. Last year the European Union took Italy to court and in May the European Comission began a prosecution against Naple authorities.
