A newspaper has reported that a senior US government scientist has apparently committed suicide just as prosecutors were about to charge him with carrying out a series of deadly anthrax attacks in 2001.
The Los Angeles Times identified the man as Bruce Ivins and said he had worked for the last 18 years at government biodefence research laboratories near Washington DC.
