The United Nations' atomic watchdog has approved a plan to inspect India's nuclear facilities, clearing the way for the country to trade in nuclear technology.
The safeguards agreed by the International Atomic Energy Agency will allow UN monitors to visit 14 existing or planned reactors by 2014. This fulfils a key requirement of a deal between the United States and India that would give New Delhi access to atomic fuel and technology, although it has not signed the nuclear non-proliferation agreement.
