02.08.2008 - Czech Interior Minister to attend Beijing Olympics - server

Langer, who will be the second government member to attend the Olympics after Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek (ODS), told the daily Pravo today that he would cover the travel costs himself. He added he had been invited by the Ceska olympijska a.s.

company, COV's official marketing agency. However, Ceska olympijska a.s. denied it on Friday, saying Langer was not on the guest list. "I have a letter saying that Ceska olympijska invites me on my table, and I can show it to everyone. I pay everything myself," Langer told Pravo. Ceska My Games ...

olympijska a.s. has invited an unspecified number of people to the Olympics. It gives "quotas", usually four places, to its official partners to choose whom they will invite. Along with Langer, another three people from the Interior Ministry will go to Beijing, the paper writes. Ministry spokeswoman Hana Mala told Pravo that the Olympic committee would cover the journey of all the three and the ministry would only provide insurance. The Education Ministry is also to send three people to the Olympics, whose costs will be covered by the Ceska olympijska company, and the Defence Ministry will send one representative to Beijing. The COV alone officially invites only three people at its expenses - the president, the prime minister, and the education minister. President Vaclav Klaus Klaus, 67, will not go to the games because he is convalescing from a hip joint operation he underwent in early June. The Czech Republic will not be represented at the games opening ceremony on August 8, but Topolanek will visit the games only later.
