A summit involving the leaders of eight south Asian countries is under way in Colombo, aimed at fostering regional cooperation and food security.

Burma begins three days of mourning ... the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation or SAARC, is expected to conclude with an agreement on tackling terrorism, including ways to suppress funds used by alleged terrorists. They're also considering a plan to create a regional food bank to assist populations hit by rising prices. On the summit sideline, bilateral talks have also taken place between Pakistani premier Yousef Raza Gilani and India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Pakistan has rejected Indian claims that Pakistani operatives were behind last month's suicide bombing of the Indian embassy in Kabul. Meanwhile, in northern Sri Lanka, the military says it has killed 20 Tamil Tiger rebels near the town of Kilinochchi.
