Al-Qaida confirmed on Islamist websites that its chemical and biological weapons expert, Abu Khabab al-Masri, had been killed in a US airstrike on a Taliban hide-out in Pakistan.
Abu Khabab al-Masri had a 5 million dollar bounty on his head from the United States. In an Internet statement, al-Qaida said al-Masri and three other top figures were killed and warned of vengeance for their deaths. It did not provide details or say when and where they died. Al-Masri, also known as Midhat Mursi, is believed to have headed al-Qaida's weapons-of-mass-destruction programme under the code name al-Zabadi. Experts say his death will be a major blow to the international terrorist network and its ability to strike.
