People's confidence in the impartiality of courts has dropped by 4 percentage points since February 2007. Now its level corresponds to that in 1997-1999. According to STEM, people's views of the work of courts largely depend on their ideological opinions and party preferences. At present, it is mainly supporters of the senior ruling Civic Democratic Party (ODS) who consider courts' work good. Out of them, 40 percent said courts are impartial and 41 percent assessed their work as good. Supporters of the opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) and the Communists (KSCM) are far more critical as far as courts' impartiality is concerned. Out of the KSCM supporters among the respondents, 20 percent said courts are impartial and 21 percent praised their work as good. Courts' work is more positively assessed by well-off people, those with university education and the young generation, the poll showed.
