China quake toll 'nearly 40,000' ... news agency is reporting that an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province, quoting officials at the US Geological Survey.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries. This is the latest of scores of aftershocks from the 7.9 quake that struck Sichuan on May 12, killing almost 70,000 people and leaving millions homeless. The quake occurred just a few hours after the Olympic torch relay was held in the Sichuan provincial capital of Chengdu, its last stop before the flame officially opens the Beijing Games on Friday.
