Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has arrived in the Turkish resort town of Bodrum for a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
This follows four rounds of Turkish-mediated indirect talks between Syria and Israel. Efforts for Israeli-Syrian peace negotiations are expected to top the agenda of the meeting in the Aegean resort. Syria maintains that any peace agreement would depend on an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights, which it occupied in 1967 and annexed in 1981 in a move not recognised by the international community.
